Fort William Repair Café

Repair, reuse and keep things going

The Fort William Repair Café is a friendly community event where you can bring along broken household items and work with skilled volunteers to fix them.

The Repair Café is coordinated by Lochaber Environmental Group, Lochaber Hope and Fort William Men’s Shed, and takes place on the last Saturday of the month (excluding school holidays) at Lochaber Hope Hub on Fort William High Street.

How does it work?

1. Bring along something broken

Bring your broken item to the Repair Café, along with any obvious spare parts, cables or accessories.

Items need to be small enough for you to carry into the café yourself.

2. Tell us about your item

When you arrive, we’ll ask you to fill in a quick form telling us a little about your item and what’s wrong with it. This helps us match you with the right volunteer repairer.

3. Have a go at fixing it together

You’ll work alongside one of our skilled volunteers to see if your item can be repaired. It’s all about sharing skills and learning as we go, and if a particular part is needed, we can help you work out what to look for.

4. Enjoy the café while you’re here

Grab a coffee and some home baking from the Hope Café while you wait or stay for a chat afterwards.

Before heading home with your repaired item!

What can we help repair?

From broken kettles to wobbly chairs, our volunteers can help with all sorts of household items. Here are some of the things that we regularly take a look at.

What we can repair depends on the volunteers and skills available at each café.

furniture & household items

Small furniture, ornaments, picture frames, anything that may need some TLC, we’ll take a look at.

tools

Hand tools, garden tools, sewing machines and power tools. Blunt, loose or not working properly? Bring them along and we’ll see what can be done.

Toys

From much loved teddies to mechanical and electronic toys, we’ll take a look and see if we can bring them back to life.

Textiles

Clothing, curtains, tents and rucksacks. We can help with things like tears, missing buttons, hems and zip repairs.

Household Electricals

Kettles, toasters, vacuum cleaners, lamps and other small appliances. If it’s got a plug, bring it along and we’ll see if we can get it working again.

bikes

Punctures, brakes, gears and other bike repairs and adjustments. Bring your bike along and our volunteers will help to get you back on the road.

Want to help?

We’re always keen to hear from people who enjoy fixing things and would like to share their skills. Whether you’re handy with electricals, bikes, furniture, tools, textiles or just a good all-round fixer, we’d love to have you involved.
