Single Use Items and Re-useable Packaging.
Disposable items are everywhere these days, from take-aways to online shopping. The true cost of producing these items is starting to add up – extracting raw materials, manufacturing, storing and transporting them – just for them to end up as landfill or litter.
By switching to reusable alternatives where possible, and making sure that we recycle what’s left, we can continue to enjoy the things we love, whilst reducing the harm to our environment and communities that depend on it.
See more about the work being done across the partnership, including work to promote opportunities for packaging-free shopping, promoting reusable alternatives to single-use-on-the-go, and providing pilot schemes for single use cup recycling to the Highlands.
Refill Lochaber

We are delighted to announce that we are now one of the six new Community Refill Schemes from the Highland Community Waste Partnership, in collaboration with the City to Sea Refill Campaign. As part of our work to help reduce the impact of single-use packaging in the Highlands, we will be promoting the Refill app in our area, which aims to make it easier for consumers to find businesses where they can #ChooseToReuse or #TryRefill.
Disposable items might be convenient, but the extraction of raw materials, manufacturing, storing and transportation that goes into producing them means the true cost of these items is adding up – usually for them to only end up as landfill or litter.
83% of people in the Highlands are concerned with the amount of single-use disposable containers and packaging used for takeaway food and drink. In response to this, as part of our Conscious Consumption campaign, we want to increase the number of local businesses currently displayed on the Refill app, as well as encouraging those who want to #ChooseToReuse to download the app to easily find places offering refill options near them. Businesses can add themselves to the map here, and we encourage everyone to download the app to see where you can refill and reuse in Lochaber.
