What is Dr Bike?
Dr. Bike is a mobile bicycle mechanic service delivered at your workplace, school, community event or public space. The Fort William Bike Shed mechanics will set up a pop-up workshop and carry out a safety check on each participants bicycle. After the check has been completed, cyclists then receive a form, detailing the work that has been carried out on their bicycle and any additional work that is required.

What Dr Bike Session is right for you?
Dr Bike for Your Workplace
Dr Bike is a great way to support your staff to cycle to work. By having the safety check and minor repairs carried out during a working day it saves employees time, potentially avoids bigger mechanical issues developing for their bicycles and could encourage them to cycle work more.
The Workplace Dr Bike service is free of charge. However, we do ask that employers consider making a donation to our project, allowing us to continue helping people overcome barriers to cycling.
Dr Bike Checks for Schools
Usually done as a precursor to Bikeability delivery, a Dr Bike check at school is an opportunity to get pupils’ bikes safety checked before the Bikeability course starts. This is an effective way of checking that pupils have safe bikes during the course and avoids delays at the start of the Bikeability session. Ideally the checks are carried out at least a week before, giving families the time to complete more significant repairs. To arrange Dr Bike checks and Bikeability, please contact the Highland Council Bikeability Officer Emma Garden. She can be contacted on: bikeability@highland.gov.uk
Dr Bike for Your Community Group or Event
Dr Bike checks at a community event help to bring cycle mechanics closer to your community enabling people to get fixes done who may be facing barriers to maintaining their bicycle. It is also a way of encouraging people to cycle to an event and highlighting cycle friendly facilities like active travel routes and bike parking / storage.
If you are applying for funding to run a community event it is a good idea to contact us first to discuss costs for the active travel element so they can be built in
