All the information on these pages was correct until the end of the Highland Community Waste Partnership project i.e. 31st March 2025, but is unlikely to be updated following that.

We were one of the founding partners of the Highland Community Waste Partnership.

Between April 2022 and March 2025, we worked together to reduce waste and build a movement for more sustainable consumption in the Highlands, by working across the following three key areas of waste:

Food Waste and Composing

Share and Repair

Packaging and Single Use items

Specifically, here at Lochaber Environmental Group we led on the following areas of work:

  • Home composting and reducing food waste into landfill
  • With support from Zero Waste Scotland, provided information and events to reduce food waste
  • Provided signposting for community composting resources
  • Worked with local businesses to reduce food waste and signposted them to support
  • Increased the use of pre-loved, repaired and shared goods
  • Provided signposting to advice and support on a range of waste reduction issues

In addition, we collaborated on a number of initiatives to help raise awareness, provide skills and know-how and change the way that we all consume, that is, buy, use and dispose of things.
