Food Waste & Composting

The Highland Community Waste Partnership ran between April 2022 – March 2025. Funded by the National Lottery Climate Action Fund and coordinated by Keep Scotland Beautiful, this project brough together eight community groups in the Highlands to reduce waste and promote more sustainable consumption. All the information on these pages was correct until the end of the Highland Community Waste Partnership project i.e. 31st March 2025, but is unlikely to be updated following that.

Composting Support

Lochaber Environmental Group have been providing support to Lochaber residents and our communities via training, workshops and compost bin provision for many years now. As part of the Highland community Waste Partnership this support is continuing.

Why Compost?

Home Composting

We have continued to develop support for home composting, including updating our “How to Compost” guide. Find out more about composting, including access to compost bins and our compost workshops.

Community and Business Composting

We have provided support for a small community composting pilot and are supporting businesses with their composting too, including a Highland In-Vessel Composting Common Interest Group. Find out more here from the button.

Spirit of the Soil background

As part of the Highland Community Waste Partnership we have been able to reprint the Spirit of the Soil. This booklet was originally printed in 2003. Find out a little more about the background of the booklet here.
